Community Solar Program Expansion

Boxes of solar supplies lined up along a line of trees in a field

Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU), in conjunction with GRNE Solar, is building a community solar generation facility on Hecker Road just south of Viebahn Street. In February 2022, MPU had filed a request with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) for approval to build this 1,000 KW (kilowatt) solar facility. After overwhelming public interest in the program, MPU recently filed a second request to the PSCW to expand the solar site to 1,500 KW. At the Open Meeting on August 31, 2023, the PSCW verbally approved that request. This will not change the site location, there is enough room for the additional panels. This will, however, open up additional blocks for subscription. At this point MPU is continuing to build a waiting list of interested participants. Joining this list does not guarantee, or require, final subscription, but merely indicates interest for when the application process begins.

To learn more about the program, please see the flyer on the front page of our website at www.mpu.org. To express interest in the program by joining the waiting list, please email mpucustomerservice@mpu.org or call 920-683-4600.
