With advance notice, Manitowoc Public Utilities will provide educational tours of its Power Plant, Water Treatment Plant, and Wastewater Treatment Facility. These tours can be tailored for adults or students and can include a classroom lecture or just a tour of the facility.
While touring the facility, appropriate dress, which includes long pants, closed-toed walking shoes, and clothing/accessories for expected weather, is mandatory. Due to safety concerns, visitors with inappropriate dress will not be able to tour the entire operational facility. We provide additional safety equipment, when required, to tour a facility (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection). Schools must provide one adult chaperone for every 8 children (minimum). Power Town Demonstrations
MPU’s Electric Distribution department offers Power Town demonstrations to school-age kids, as well as adults, to demonstrate how electricity works and how to stay safe around it. Through an interactive presentation, staff demonstrates the path to electricity, important safety tips, protective equipment, and gives kids the opportunity to see lineworker tools and bucket trucks up close.
